Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County’s 4-H Program will be hosting a series of lessons that will explore cuisine and culture throughout Erie County. Each workshop will include an activity box with materials that will allow 4-Hers to have a hands-on experience during the virtual lesson.

The first workshop, Cuisine & Culture: Explore Africa, will take place on Wednesday, January 27th at 6 pm. Join us for a live Zoom and meet Mahamud Mberwa. Mahamud will start the lesson with a background about his home country and show 4-Hers how to make a recipe using African corn. Each lesson includes an activity box that must be picked up prior to the virtual lesson. After hearing from Mahamud participants will be doing an engineering activity with provided materials.

Each month youth will discover a new Cuisine & Culture! A recipe and lesson materials, as well as a virtual local tour or Zoom speaker to guide the lesson, will be featured. Other workshops in the series include Ancient Food and Fiber: Wheat and Wool, and the History of Cheese: French Cuisine.  More workshops and dates will be announced as they are planned.

You must be enrolled in Erie County 4-H to participate and the cost to participate is $5 per person per activity. Materials can be picked up at the CCE Erie County 4-H office on January 20th between 10 am-5 pm only. We are unable to mail materials at this time .You may also contact Megan Burley, 4-H Youth Development Educator via email msb347@cornell.edu
