Soils: Part 2-Beginning Farmer Discussion Group

  • Tuesday, August 30, 2016, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

East Aurora, NY. In the midst of summer farmers have to think about many things, especially soil. Lack of nutrients in the soil during the growing season negatively impacts plant growth and development. To avoid nutrient problems, these problems are usually found after completing a soil test. In part one of this discussion we talked about taking a soil test and understanding your results. During part two we will explain what the different nutrients a plant needs and what can be done to the soil to aide in proper plant growth. If you don’t know why plants need Nitrogen, Phosprhous, and Potassium and other nutrients, this is the workshop for you. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County will be hosting part 2 of the Beginning Farmer Discussion Group August 30 at 7 pm in Dard Hunter Hall in the Roycroft Print Shop (Formally CCE Erie Auditorium). This group is open to all farmers, beginning and existing.

Allen Young, Technician for the Erie County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Megan Burley, Farm Business Management Educator for CCE Erie, will discuss the difference between plant nutrients, and how to use fertilizer and compost as plant nutrients.
