2024 marks the twentieth year of ‘Bloom’ classes offered by the Master Gardeners of Erie County. Classes will be of interest to both beginning and veteran gardeners.

Dates and Locations:

February 10th – Orchard Park Community Center, 4520 California Road, Orchard Park, NY

  •  "Cut This Not That: Lessons in Pruning"  Learn how to encourage healthy growth, shape, and renovate your shrubs and trees and how to prune at the right time of year for a variety of plants.
  • “Want to Start Your Own Seeds?” Starting seeds inside helps get a head start on the gardening season. Choosing seeds, seed starting mixes, and light and water requirements will be covered along with Winter Sowing.

February 24th – Roswell Park Outreach and Engagement Building, 907 Michigan Ave, Buffalo, NY (The building is on the corner of Michigan Ave. and Virginia St.Parking is available in a lot next to building, (enter from Virginia St.), on-street parking and the Roswell Park Parking Ramp.Enter the building from Virginia St.)

  • “Gardening Tool of the Future: Your Smart Phone” Smart phone apps can help with plant identification, garden planning, planting advice, and keeping a photographic journal of your garden. Learn how these apps can help you make the most of your gardening.
  • "Mapping Invasive Species in Your Backyard and Beyond Using the iMapInvasives App"

    Many individuals and organizations contribute to and utilize iMapInvasives, New York State’s official invasive species database, and you can too! This program will cover when and how to use the iMapInvasives app on your phone to report invasive species and why doing so is valuable. Learn about opportunities to get involved with community science, including how you can help fill regional data gaps by learning how to identify and report Wild Chervil, Elm Zigzag Sawfly, Yellow Floating Heart and Black Jetbead, WNY PRISM’s 2024 Data Gap Species Priorities. Participants will be provided time to practice submitting a report via iMapInvasives.

Fees:

  • -One day  $25 (public) $20 (CCE Erie Master Gardeners)
  • -Both days $45 (public) $35 (CCE Erie Master Gardeners)

Class Times: 8:30am Registration / 9:00am – 11:45am
