Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County Offers 2020 WNY Bedding Plant School

What: Bedding Plant Workshop

When: Tuesday, January 28, 2020 Registration begins at 8:15 am with the program running from 9:00 am to 4:50 pm.

Where: Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County (CCE Erie) at 21 South Grove Street, East Aurora, NY 14052 (located on the 2nd floor of the Print Shop Building on the Roycroft campus),

Come learn what is new in management of pests in commercial greenhouses from Cornell faculty, CCE staff, industry personnel and NYS Agriculture and Markets representatives.Presentations will cover avoiding mistakes with bio-control, plant disease updates for greenhouses and landscapes, invasive species to watch out for, alternative pesticide chemistries and use of nematodes in greenhouse production.The program will feature a presentation from Richard Stup from Cornell University Pro-Dairy Program on Human Resource Management and Regulatory Compliance in 2020:Working Through Regulatory Changes. Dr. Stup in his role with Cornell serves as a liason between the agricultural industry and employment-focused regulatory authorities, working in areas such as human resource management, enhancing employee engagement, regulatory compliance, and leadership development at the ag-business level.

Additional program speakers include John Sanderson from Cornell; Elizabeth Lamband Brian Eshenaur from Cornell NYS Integrated Pest Management (IPM); Jamilyn Woodside, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets; Heidi Warner from NuFarm; Casey Decker with Sierra Biological and Sharon Bachman from CCE Erie. There will also be industry vendor displays.The program is provided in partnership with the New York Flower Industries.

The workshop has been approved by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation for 5.0 credits in pesticide recertification categories 10, 1a, and 3a; 4.5 credits in category 23 and 24; 3.5 credits in category 25; and 2.0 credits in category 9.

The workshop will be held at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County at 21 South Grove Street, East Aurora, NY 14052 (located on the 2nd floor of the Print Shop Building on the Roycroft campus). Workshop registration fee covers speakers/program, coffee, and snacks and lunch is sponsored by Griffin and Ball Horticultural.

Registration fee:

  • $95 for individuals and/or businesses not currently a member of the NY Flower Industries and includes a one-year membership to the Flower Industries Association.
  • $45 for members of the New York Flower Industries (either individually or as an employee of a member business).
  • $35 for enrollees of CCE Erie’s agriculture program
