Farming is a challenging profession – come chat with organizations that can make growers’ lives a little easier!
Farming women are invited to attend a free picnic dinner running from 6:30 – 8:00 pm on Monday, August 12 at Hamlin Park, East Aurora, to learn how to build a farm-support network.
Farmers expertly adapt and innovate to achieve production and business goals in a setting where the myriad of high-priority tasks never ends. In a given day, a farmer may have to develop markets, implement new production techniques, access business funding, understand and follow complex regulations, communicate with the public, and manage staff.
Luckily, many agencies stand ready to offer technical support and funding to our hard-working farmers.
On August 12, farm-support agencies will gather in East Aurora as a part of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County and the Cornell Vegetable Program’s Women in Agriculture: Voices, Empowerment, Skills (WAVES) program.
Each agency will explain what they offer, funding they have available, and how they can support your farm. Agencies include Farm Bureau, NRCS, FarmNet, Cornell Cooperative Extension, the Small Business Development Center, crop protection organizations (BASF & IPM Labs), and others.
Any women involved inprofessional farming (including but not limited to owners, employees, interns, spouses of owners, part-time growers) and FFA/4-H youth age 16 & up who plan a career in horticulture are welcome to attend. The focus will be on horticultural crops, though women in any agricultural discipline are welcome to attend. Come, let’s talk (and eat)!
Picnic dinner will be provided with pre-registration. Registration required by August 8th! The programming is free of charge thanks to a grant from Farm Credit Northeast’s AgEnhancement Program.
